Bosie’s work was obviously meant to be read, which makes it more bearable. As it was written for one pair of eyes only, one feels wicked while reading, like one is entering an intimate realm in which we were not meant to be part of. Many things may have been said about that letter, but no one can deny it is a confession of pure and utter love. De Profundis, Oscar Wilde’s letter to Bosie while he was in prison, is a beautiful work of art, a piece that conveys suffering and redemption, and quite simply, the purest form of love from the one who wrote it. it is only natural, therefore, that one story can take different turns and styles depending on its author.
